Despite his diagnosis, 7 year old Shan is very much like other kids his age! He goes to school inside of the orphanage each morning and his teachers feel he has made a lot of progress. He knows more than 20 Chinese characters, can count from 1-100, and can even recite ancient poems! When he is looking at a picture book, he can describe what is happening on each page to his teacher. He is a creative thinker and is really good at coming up with these short stories!
After class, Shan likes to run around and play with his friends. They like to use their imaginations to come up with all sorts of new games to play! Shan’s nannies tell us that one time, Shan was riding in a little toy car while his friend was spinning him round and round. The nannies laughed and asked, “Shan, aren’t you dizzy?” Shan just smiled and said, “I’m not dizzy, but my friend sure is!” Although he can be a little mischievous at times, his caretakers say Shan is typically well-behaved and makes friends easily.
Shan can take care of most self-care tasks on his own – he has no problem getting dressed, eating, and brushing his teeth. He will often help his nannies with some simple chores, too! He can walk, run, and jump with ease, and he has good fine motor skills. His nannies tell us he has made a lot of progress with his language skills and he can communicate his needs verbally. He understands what is said to him and is able to respond with a focused answer.
Please help Shan find his forever family!
