JAM, a resilient and brave 13-year-old teenage boy, has faced more challenges in his young life than many could imagine. His journey through the foster care system in Colombia has been marked by hope, disappointment, and an unwavering desire to find a loving family. Despite the setbacks, JAM dreams of a stable and nurturing home where he can thrive and be loved. James was on the brink of being adopted by a family he had grown to trust and love. The anticipation and preparation for this life-changing event filled him with hope and happiness.
However, his dreams were shattered when the family unexpectedly backed out due to circumstances beyond his control. The impact of this sudden withdrawal left James feeling surprised, embarrassed, and deeply hurt. Despite this heartbreaking experience, JAM has shown remarkable resilience. He is working through his grief with the help of clinical psychologists, focusing on positive reconstruction and developing coping strategies. His journey is one of hope and determination as he strives to overcome his past traumas and build a better future.
JAM’s strength is evident in his daily actions and thoughts. He participates in activities at La Casa, engages in school, and wants to find a new family. He dreams of becoming a footballer and envisions a family with a few siblings who speak Spanish.
A Call for Compassion and Support
JAM needs a family that understands the complexities of his trauma and is prepared to help him heal and grow. We urge families with knowledge of human development and behavioral management in children with complex trauma to consider adopting JAM. He is an exceptional teenager with a profound capacity to give and receive love, and he deserves a chance to experience the stability and affection of a permanent home.
JAM’s journey has been difficult, but his hope and determination continue to shine through. He dreams of a family that will love him unconditionally and support his aspirations. By sharing his story, we hope to find that family who can provide JAM with the nurturing environment he needs to flourish.

CCAI’s Colombia Program
Due to the significant number of children in need of a permanent and loving family, CCAI initiated its Colombia adoption program in 2020. The children available for adoption from Colombia are typically older and may have diverse medical needs. These resilient and hopeful children carry their rich and unique cultural heritage with them.
Many families who ultimately adopt from Colombia first welcome their prospective child(ren) through hosting organizations, like Project One Forty Three. This opportunity allows them to bond and spend meaningful time with the child(ren) before starting the formal adoption process.
