Our Journey That Came Full Circle
My husband Nick and I began the adoption process in November 2020 after returning from many years in China. We hoped to adopt from our beloved โsecond homeโ and spent the next few years working through paperwork and logistics. CCAI supported us throughout โ guiding, encouraging, answering questions, and praying for us โ while our family and friends rallied around us.
Though China had paused international adoptions, we continued to hope it would reopen. In November 2022, we opened an adoption option in Taiwan, still praying China would resume. Then in September 2024, CCAI introduced us to our son, Jun-Hua โ the very same week China officially closed its program. It was a bittersweet moment, but we felt a deep peace that he was meant to be our son.

In October, while on a 40-mile bike ride, we received the call that we were officially matched and celebrated right there on the trail! We began monthly video calls with him โ baking a cake together, learning his kindergarten dance, laughing, and building familiarity. Our first trip to Taiwan was in June 2025. We remember him courageously walking in alone to meet us, saying โHi,โ and sitting beside us. Within minutes, we were playing.
Our time in Taiwan was full of bonding activities and supported by wonderful social workers whose child-centered approach was beautiful to experience. On our second trip in August 2025, we became a family of three. Two months later, Jun-Hua is thriving. He loves the playground slide, Legos, car races, biking, hide-and-seek, and fishing with us. He laughs easily and is already joking in English. This October, he rode the same 40-mile bike trail with us โ a full-circle moment of joy and gratitude.
