Meet sweet and radiant Vivi, who needs a family! This precious girl was placed in a group home at age seven and has improved since. For instance, she has become more independent, her gross and fine motor skills have improved significantly, and she has started communicating more confidently.
Despite her diagnosis of cerebral palsy, Vivi’s resilience shines through. She has mastered balance, squatting, standing up, running, throwing, and kicking a ball. Her muscle tone is stable, and she walks independently. Her fine motor skills are also well-developed, holding small objects, using a spoon and a fork correctly, and even transferring liquids from one container to another.
Vivi communicates in short sentences, and although she stutters when feeling shy or tense, she doesn’t let it stop her from expressing herself. For example, Vivi knows all the children in the house by their names! She has favorite adults from the staff, forming close bonds with two staff members – a social therapist and a caregiver. Vivi can follow instructions, appropriately uses toys and everyday objects, and is curious about new activities. She enjoys playing with other children, participates in group games, and is content to play independently.
Vivi is calm at night, sleeps in bed, and shares a room with another child. She is not afraid to sleep in the dark or with a closed door at night. The group home director recognizes Vivi’s immense potential. While they do their best to nurture her and provide the attention and care she needs, they acknowledge that they cannot provide the stability and love that only a family can offer. CCAI’s Bulgaria Program
CCAI placed its first Bulgarian child in 2015 and the program has been growing ever since! Like most intercountry adoption programs today, Bulgaria places older children, children with medical needs, and/or sibling groups. The biggest “need” is for families open to children 8 and above and to children with medical conditions. In fact, families open to children with Down syndrome can often be matched in as little as 3-6 months from dossier submission!
CCAI’s parent preparation resources give families the tools they need to successfully welcome a special child into their hearts and home. The Bulgaria program is running strong and CCAI warmly invites families to view just a few of the many children waiting for their forever families.
