Adoption Programs
On Wednesday, September 4th, 2024, the U.S. Department of State issued a notice confirming that China has officially closed its foreign adoption program. This means that all in-process and future applications to adopt from China will no longer be processed, except in cases involving stepchildren or blood relatives within three generations who reside in China. CCAI is a trusted China Relative Adoption Agency, experienced in guiding families through the process of adopting a relative’s child. This viable option allows family members to legally adopt and care for a relative’s child, ensuring the child’s welfare within the family.
Very specific requirements must be met to pursue a relative adoption, in addition to meeting China’s adoption qualifications.
The first step is to complete this form AND the application for adoption to initiate a discussion with CCAI about your family’s situation. (The application fee will not be due until we determine we can serve you.)
CCAI established its China adoption program more than 30 years ago out of a need for families for healthy infant girls. Today, our China adoption program now focuses on serving those children in desperate need of a family – older children and those with medical/functional/support needs. CCAI’s parent preparation resources give families the tools to welcome a precious child into their hearts and home.

Applicants should be at least 30 years of age with the younger parent no more than 50 years older than child to be adopted.
Heterosexual couples married at least 2 years (5 years if either applicant has 2 previous divorces), and single heterosexual females.
No more than 5 minor children in the home and youngest child must be at least age 3.
At least $10,000 in annual income per household member, minimum $80,000 net worth ($100,000 for singles), both applicants must hold at least a HS diploma.
Applicants must be in good physical and mental condition necessary to provide responsible care for an adopted child:
No alcohol abuse within past ten years; no history of drug use or experimentation.
No history of domestic violence, sexual abuse, or child abuse.
No criminal violations in the past ten years.

Your child match wait time will depend entirely on the age, gender, and medical conditions your family is open to AND the children made available for adoption. Most families wait between 6-36 months between submitting a Medical Conditions Checklist (MCC) and receiving a potential child referral in the Waiting Child Program.

Successful completion of 12+ parent training hours which meets the requirements of the Hague Convention on Intercountry Adoption and CCAI. All Parent Training is covered in CCAI fees.
One trip is required with a duration of 14-17 days. During your trip, you will meet your child, finalize the adoption, and obtain a passport and the adoption visa to enter the US.

At this time, no; China adoption today is a program for children with identified medical conditions. Unfortunately, China adoption may not be the right program for your family if you seek a young child with very little or no medical needs. However, many beautiful children are waiting, and we welcome you to contact CCAI’s Waiting Child Program for current statistics on the most common conditions we see!
CCAI places all MCCs on file in the order they are received. As children’s files become available from the CCCWA, we can use those MCCs to determine a potential child match. We then contact a family directly about a child and email the child’s entire file to the family. In other cases, families become aware of a child through CCAI’s advocacy or another agency’s photo listing, internet advocacy, Rainbow Kids, etc. If you find a child you would like to learn more about, please don’t hesitate to contact CCAI, and we would be happy to inquire on your behalf!
Families adopting from Bulgaria must work with a Hague-accredited or COA-accredited home study agency to complete their home study report. If you are living in CO, FL, GA, TX, or WY, CCAI will be your home study provider. For all other states, please visit the link below to find a home study provider in your area.
CCAI requires 12+ hours of training time which meets the requirements of the Hague Convention on Intercountry Adoption.

GiGi Pleet joined CCAI in 2014 as our China Applications Specialist. She rejoined the team in 2022 after taking a few years off to spend time with her family. GiGi and her husband have adopted three beautiful daughters from China who are the joy and purpose of their lives. GiGi is passionate about adoption and furthering CCAI’s mission to find loving parents and permanent homes for as many children as possible and to continue reaching out to children left behind. When she is not working, you can find her spending time with her girls in the beautiful mountains of Colorado or on an adventure to a new, faraway place.

Emily was adopted through CCAI in 2002! Having always admired the ways that the organization continued to support families even after adoption, she began working at The Park last year because she wanted to be more involved in the adoption community and according to her, “It’s been a blast so far!”
Emily is majoring in environmental science at MSU Denver and hopes to help mitigate the causes and effects of climate change. In her free time, she like to practice guitar, play video games, watch movies, and spend time with her friends and family.

Ivy has a Bachelor of Arts Degree in Production Design for Film and Theater with a minor in Studio Art. She had the opportunity to study abroad in London, England and Florence, Italy. After graduating, while visiting an orphanage in Kathmandu, Nepal she had a moment of realization and knew she wanted to work in the adoption community. After some prior experience in post-adoption and nonprofit management, she came to The Park and is really enjoying focusing on and being involved with offering lifelong support for adoptees and the adoption community.
Ivy was adopted from Kazakhstan at 18-months old and is proud of her adoptee identity and her adoptive family. She is passionate about sharing the stories of the amazing people in the adoption community and helping adoptees celebrate their identities. Her lifelong best friend was adopted from China through CCAI.
In her free time, she enjoys making art (she is working on a series of sculptural paintings of poached animal species), trying new food, catching up with friends, reading, and being with family. She loves to travel whenever possible.
